2019-2021. HAND-EMBROIDERY, USED CLOTHING
This interactive installation invites viewers to confront the weight of societal expectations, trauma, and the silencing of personal experiences. By hand-embroidering used clothing with phrases that externalize often-internalized pain, the work transforms ordinary garments into intimate political statements. These familiar items of fast fashion—once discarded and now reclaimed—become vessels for vulnerability and resilience. Viewers are encouraged to touch and engage with each piece, bridging the gap between personal suffering and collective empathy. In doing so, Burdens They Wear makes visible the hidden scars that society compels individuals to carry alone, challenging the norms that stigmatize open expression of trauma and pain.
